Course Overview
This course introduces students to the language of medicine and healthcare. It provides a comprehensive foundation in medical terminology, including the structure, meaning, pronunciation, and usage of medical terms commonly encountered in clinical and healthcare settings. Students will learn how medical terms are formed from prefixes, roots, suffixes, and combining forms, and how these elements are used to describe diseases, procedures, anatomy, and body systems.

Course Goal
The course aims to develop students’ ability to understand, interpret, construct, and correctly use medical terminology in professional healthcare communication. It prepares learners to read medical records, understand clinical documentation, and communicate effectively within healthcare environments.

Course Description
The course covers the fundamental principles of medical terminology, including word formation, common prefixes and suffixes, abbreviations, symbols, and anatomical directional terms. Students will explore medical vocabulary related to body systems, with particular emphasis on the digestive system and associated pathological conditions, diagnostic procedures, surgical interventions, and pharmacological terms.
